The two most basic watering cans are metal or plastic. Plastic watering cans tend to be cheaper and generally less durable, but these watering cans are lightweight and easy to carry. Metal cans can be used for a longer period of time, provided that they are galvanized and rust-proof. These may be a bit heavy, but their durability means you can use a reliable watering can throughout your life in the garden.
There is no right or wrong choice, but one thing to consider is deflation. Plastic cans can contaminate your water. If you are watering food, this is something you need to pay attention to. Otherwise, any of these garden watering cans should do equally well. If you use a watering can often, it is best to buy a well-designed watering can. I do a lot of gardening with containers in a city that is very hot in summer, so I often use my watering can.
Size is another issue. If you use a watering can for light work, such as lightly watering under the leaves of African violets, you need a little guy. For larger jobs in a greenhouse or garden, choose a job that you can lift easily, but this way you don't have to travel to the hose bib frequently.
